C2NY 2009
4/29/2009 8:50:20 PM

City Culture New York (C2NY) is proud to announce its second annual visual arts competition beginning May 5, 2009 and ending August 1st, 2009.

C2NY is an innovative web-based visual arts contest that gives New York City artists a chance to exhibit their work that visually represents the spirit and culture of New York City, at Central Park SummerStage concert events. This year up to ten competition winners will display their pieces alongside world-renowned artists at Central Park SummerStage’s new eco-friendly C2NY Outdoor Art Gallery, and win an artist feature in Metro NY, reaching over 600,000 New Yorkers.

To enter the contest, simply Register a Profile on LAL.com through our Workstation. Then follow the steps to upload and create a gallery of either Photos or Art, including any type of photography, paintings, graphic design, sketches, and illustrations. This meaning any type of visual art translate-able through digital means that can be exhibited on a wall.

Make sure to check the C2NY box while creating your gallery to properly submit your entry.

Guidelines

Work is judged per gallery. Create an edit (four to twenty-five images) of visual art that best represents the spirit and culture of New York City.

Multiple galleries for each contestant are allowed, so long as none of the visual art within is used twice. Contestants must be 18+ years old and a legal resident of the five boroughs of New York City.

Digital submissions are required to be .jpegs or .png files 72 dpi at 8x10 inches (or roughly 1000x1000 pixels).

Winners are required to be capable of exhibiting four to eight pieces of artwork (at roughly sixteen by twenty inches) from their LAL.com gallery at their designated SummerStage C2NY Outdoor Gallery exhibit, and able to do so as early as four days from contact from LAL.com staff.

Failure to comply with any Guidelines can result in disqualification.

Who’s judging your work?

Judging this year’s online competition will be Carlo McCormack (Paper Magazine), Chris Ambrose (Tokion Magazine), Alan Ket (Artist, Curator), Jayson Atienza (Artist, Sole Blvd.), Amy Zimmer (Metro NY), Ken Miller (Author, Editor, SHOOT), and Leslie Martin (Aperture Books). The contest winners will be selected based on the artwork that best represents the spirit and culture of New York City through a digital copy of their work.

There will be three different selections periods for the winners. All submissions throughout the season will be considered for each selection period.

Good luck!

“As an emerging artist in NYC it was a wonderful opportunity to have my artworks featured right besides a stage which hosts internationally known legends. The audience at the show was totally receptive and enthusiastic as was the staff working at the C2NY booth. It has been a pleasure for me to have taken part in this event. Thank you!” - Frani Lugo, Painter
